Ben & Sarah's personal guide to San Diego
We've lived here for years โ these are our absolute favourites. Come early, stay late!
One of the world's most famous zoos, set across 100 acres in Balboa Park. Home to over 3,500 animals โ plan for at least half a day. Don't miss the giant pandas and the Africa Rocks exhibit.
San Diego's cultural heart โ 1,200 acres of museums, gardens, and stunning Spanish-Colonial architecture. Stroll the gardens, visit the Natural History Museum, or just people-watch near the fountain.
A classic SoCal boardwalk experience โ sandy shores, beach volleyball, surf rentals, and the vintage Giant Dipper roller coaster at Belmont Park. Great for a full beach day with the whole crew.
A stunning sea cave-flanked cove where sea lions lounge on the rocks and snorkelers explore crystal-clear water. Walk the cliffs, watch the wildlife, and grab lunch at one of the village restaurants nearby.
A local institution in Pacific Beach serving Baja-style seafood tacos that have been featured on the Food Network and Travel Channel. The smoked fish taco and battered fish are legendary. Casual, cheap, and absolutely delicious.
Dramatic sandstone cliffs stretching 1.5 miles along Point Loma's western shore. Rugged sea caves, crashing waves, and jaw-dropping Pacific sunsets. Arrive an hour before dusk to snag a good spot โ it gets busy for good reason.
A rare wilderness oasis within city limits, home to the nation's rarest pine tree. Eight miles of trails wind through sandstone canyons and coastal chaparral to breathtaking ocean overlooks. The Beach Trail ends on a wide, uncrowded stretch of sand.
San Diego's premier mezcal and tequila bar, tucked away on Adams Ave in University Heights. Over 700 agave spirits, killer margaritas, and excellent tacos. Ask the staff for a guided mezcal flight โ they really know their stuff.
A San Diego craft brewery with a lifestyle-forward vibe and seriously great beer. Known for their smooth Hazy IPA, crisp Mexican Lager, and rotating seasonal taps. Multiple locations โ the Bay Park taproom has a great outdoor patio.
